University of Maryland and Prince George’s County Police are investigating a burglary that took place off the campus Friday night, according to a University of Maryland safety notice.

University Police responded to the 7500 block of Girard Avenue at about 10:58 p.m. on Friday, where they met with Prince George’s County Police to investigate a burglary. Students from this university reported that a suspect entered their residence through an unlocked window and tried to steal some of their belongings, according to the notice. But as the suspect attempted to flee, a resident was able to prevent him from taking any property.

The suspect, described as a male 6-foot 2-inch tall man with a medium build, escaped through the back door, according to the report. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with no sleeves and a red hat. Police were unable to locate him despite searching the area.
