Felines are mysterious creatures, and Cashmere Cat is no exception.

The Norwegian producer and DJ might technically be human, but his fiercely agile, slinking beats fit his name frighteningly well. With work on the latest releases by Kanye West, The Weeknd and Travis Scott, he’s one of the guiding forces behind modern rap and pop music.

The producer took EDM by storm in 2012 with his still-beautiful single “Mirror Maru” and a flood of excellent remixes that were commonplace in high profile DJ sets over the next couple of years.

With his upcoming album, Wild Love, imminent, Cashmere Cat’s influence in popular music is at an all time high. His latest single, “Trust Nobody” with Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez has an impressive 87 million plays on Spotify.

And this Friday, Feb. 17, he’s bringing his unique sound to the 9:30 Club.

Presented by U Street Music Hall, the show will feature the producer’s eclectic taste in electronic, pop and rap music. A Spotify playlist the artist made, which features the description “these are songs I really love to listen to and play in my DJ set right now,” is full of tracks by a wide range of artists like T-Pain, The Jackson 5, Migos and Kaytranada.

Not to mention the fact Cashmere Cat has the DJing chops to create that diverse blend seamlessly — in 2006, as a teenager, he was performing in the DMC World DJ Championships under the moniker DJ Final.

While pop music can be an impersonal form of music, and DJing a somewhat-removed delivery system, Cashmere Cat’s passion and the 9:30 Club’s quasi-intimate setting should make for a post-Valentine’s concert that’s easy to love.

Tickets are $22. Doors at 8:00 p.m.
