Former Maryland men’s basketball guard Juan Dixon, the star of the Terps’ 2002 national championship team, is taking over as the head men’s basketball coach at Coppin State, according The Baltimore Sun.

Coppin State, located in Dixon’s hometown of Baltimore, is the 38-year-old’s first-ever men’s basketball head coaching experience.

Dixon served as a special assistant at Maryland for three years, parting ways with the Terps in 2016. He moved on to coach women’s basketball at the University of the District of Columbia, but after a 3-25 campaign with the Firebirds this past campaign, he’s taking a new position.

As a guard at Maryland from 1998 to 2002, Dixon became the program’s all-time leading scorer and won the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in 2002. During his senior season, he averaged 20.4 points per game and was named the ACC Player of the Year.

Dixon was selected No. 17 by the Washington Wizards in the 2002 NBA Draft and went on to play seven NBA seasons. In the 2005-2006 season, Dixon averaged a career-high 12.3 points per game for the Portland Trailblazers in 76 appearances.
