Maryland had no shortage of alumni making us proud in the NFL this season. Whether it be Stefon Diggs on offense or Yannick Ngakoue on defense, plenty of former Terps have made big plays as pros.

Here’s our ranking of the 10 best plays from Maryland alumni this season. It was tough to narrow it down, but we think you’ll agree these ones stood out.

10. Yannick Ngakoue’s strip sack against the Cardinals

Yannick Ngakoue spent 2017 wreaking havoc on quarterbacks, recording 12 sacks. This one in Arizona led to a forced fumble that was recovered for a touchdown.

9. Torrey Smith’s big gain against the Rams

Torrey Smith’s first year in Philly has been successful, as the Eagles have wrapped up their regular season with a 13-3 record and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Smith made his fair share of big plays this year, such as this 46-yard gain when the Eagles played in Los Angeles.

8. Vernon Davis’ juke against the Raiders

Ankle breakers normally take place in basketball, but Vernon Davis used Sunday Night Football to juke a Raiders defender out of his shoes.

7. Sean Davis’ pick against the Titans

Sean Davis grabbed his second career interception in prime time, picking off Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and returning it 41 yards.

6. Vernon Davis’ touchdown against the Raiders

In the same game Vernon Davis put an Oakland defender on skates, he also grabbed a touchdown, hauling in a pass from Kirk Cousins in the end zone to pad Washington’s lead.

5. Darrius Heyward-Bey’s reverse TD against the Browns

DHB’s explosive speed was the main reason the Raiders selected him seventh overall in the NFL Draft back in 2009. While he has not quite lived up to his high draft pick, he has remained really fast. He demonstrated that on this play, which helped send the Browns to an 0-16 season.

4. Torrey Smith’s touchdown against the Cardinals

This was a pretty simple but nonetheless great play by Torrey Smith. He got separation from his defender, caught the pass from Carson Wentz and ran into the end zone untouched for a 59-yard score.

3. Yannick Ngakoue’s scoop and score against the Titans

The Jaguars are going to the playoffs for the first time since 2007, and Yannick Ngakoue is one of the main reasons. His best play this season came on Sunday, when he recovered a fumble and ran it all the way back for a touchdown in Nashville.

2. Stefon Diggs’ touchdown against the Buccaneers

Did you think we were going to forget the founder of the #DMVtoUMD movement? Stefon Diggs is quite possibly Maryland’s most beloved alum in the NFL, and he had a pretty great 2017. One of his best plays came in an all-around great game against the Buccaneers, when he made multiple defenders miss before cruising into the end zone for a 59-yard score.

1. Stefon Diggs’ touchdown against the Saints

OK, this one needs multiple angles.

Stefon Diggs looked like another great Vikings receiver on this play, with the kind of grab Randy Moss would regularly make back in his prime. Diggs going up to get that ball and hauling it in was a spectacular play — and the best made by a Terp this season.
