Two Maryland women’s lacrosse players earned Big Ten honors Tuesday, with Megan Whittle awarded Offensive Player of the Week and Lizzie Colson named Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the second time this season Whittle and Colson have received conference recognition.

Both Whittle and Colson had strong performances for No. 5 Maryland (4-1) in wins against UMBC and Hofstra last week.

Whittle had seven goals against the Retrievers on Wednesday, six of which came from free position shots, as well as three draw controls. In the Terps’ 17-10 over the Pride, the attacker had five goals and two assists.

Colson had two ground balls and four draw controls in the 21-12 victory over UMBC, as well as two ground balls and three draw controls against Hofstra on Saturday.

While Whittle has been a key starter and contributor for the Terps over the past four years, Colson has stepped into a new role this season after only starting three games in 2017 as a freshman.

The pair will look to lead Maryland on both ends of the field come Sunday, when the team faces Syracuse on the road.
