Maryland women’s lacrosse midfielder Grace Griffin won Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday after a strong showing in the Terps’ 13-8 win over No. 16 Penn State on Thursday.

Griffin led the team with three assists and scored two goals on three shots. She also collected a ground ball and caused a turnover in Maryland’s 13th consecutive win.

The freshman has now won Big Ten weekly honors twice this season and has emerged as a significant contributor for the No. 3 Terps. After scoring seven goals in her first eight games, the Sykesville native has 15 tallies in her past eight.

Maryland has won 13 weekly honors this year, as the Terps are undefeated in Big Ten play. They are tied atop the conference standings with No. 7 Northwestern, which also has not dropped a game to a Big Ten foe.

Maryland and the Wildcats will play a de facto Big Ten regular season championship game Thursday in College Park.
