Former Maryland basketball star Kevin Huerter added another memorable moment to his successful rookie season on Monday night.

Following the Miami Heat’s narrow victory over Huerter’s Atlanta Hawks, legendary shooting guard Dwyane Wade sought out Kevin Huerter. Wade offered Huerter some advice and then traded jerseys with him.

In a post-game interview, Wade, who is retiring after the end of the season, said that he had planned to trade jerseys with Huerter before the game. Wade had been told by a friend that growing up, Huerter wore Wade’s signature shoes and wears the No. 3 because of him.

Wade also added high praise of Huerter, saying that he “really likes his game. Preseason when we played them, all the way until now, he’s gotten so much better. So from one No. 3 to another, I thought I’d switch jerseys with him.”

In the game, Huerter started alongside fellow former Terp Alex Len and logged a total of 24 minutes. In that time Huerter scored 13 points on 50 percent shooting while chipping in two assists and three rebounds.

For the season, Huerter is averaging 27.2 minutes per game with 9.4 points per game, making 42.3 percent of his field goals and 39.1 percent of his threes.
