University of Maryland Police were notified of an attempted sexual assault near the campus Monday afternoon, according to a UMD alert.

A female, who is not affiliated with this university, was on the Northeast Branch Trail between Campus Drive and River Road at about 2:30 p.m. when a man grabbed her, the alert read. She told police that she fought the man’s advances and ran after him.

The man — wearing a blue sweatshirt, black pants and a gold hat — is Hispanic, 5-foot-7 and in his early 20s, according to police. He was last seen near River Road and University Research Court, which is in the Discovery District, a 150-acre area around The Hotel.

The female reported the incident to the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, who are investigating. Police are reviewing nearby camera footage, according to the alert.
