University of Maryland Police obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for a man suspected of a sex offense in a December incident in front of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house.

Anwar Hammed Abdel-Rahman, 43, of College Park, faces charges of second-degree assault, a fourth-degree sex offense and molesting a student on the grounds of an institution of higher education, according to a University Police news release.

Abdel-Rahman is not affiliated with this university, according to the release.

At about 12:09 p.m. on Dec. 17, University Police were notified of an incident at 6 Fraternity Row involving a female student at this university.

The student reported the suspect approached her near the Memorial Chapel and began to walk with her, the release read. During the walk, the suspect inappropriately touched her in a sexual manner. She was able to escape and contacted police.

University Police received a tip about the suspect earlier this month and later identified him as Abdel-Rahman, according to the release.
