League of Legends
The League of Legends World Championship is coming to a close with Samsung White and Star Horn Royal Club in the finals, so you know what that means: season five is just around the corner.
With roster changes and players dropping from teams like flies, everyone is curious as to what the next season of League of Legends is going to look like.
SK Telecom T1 K dropped almost half of its team, which won Worlds in season three, leaving everyone wondering where their marksman, Gwangjin “Piglet” Chae, is going to go. While support Junghyun “PoohManDu” Lee is leaving togo back to school, fans are speculating that Piglet will be scooped up by a North American team.
Korean leagues are also going to have to cope with a new change: Companies are no longer allowed to sponsor more than one team. Samsung Blue and White, SK Telecom T1 and 2, and CJ Entus Frost and Blaze are among the few that are going to have to cram together or split.
“Basically, they’re gonna have to find the best players of the two teams — so CJ will become stronger, from what people are saying. There’s a rumor or assumption that Flame might be mid laner and Shy will be top,” said sophomore John Park. “I would love to see that since Shy was one of my favorite top laners.”
Another huge roster swap includes Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider from Team SoloMid and Marcel “dexter” Feldkamp from Counter Logic Gaming. Both of them are junglers for their respective team, leaving fans and professionals alike wondering what’s going on.
“That seems big to me because from when [dexter] came on CLG had done really well as a whole. I don’t agree with it but I’m looking forward to see who will replace him,” said UMD League of Legends club member Krishna Kollipara.
In addition to huge roster changes, Riot Games recently released tentative changes for the upcoming season onto PBE. Mainly jungle changes, the different role has everyone is buzzing about how it’s going to be played. Different jungling items will be changing how smite will work on monsters – including allowing the summoner spell to be used on champions rather than just monsters. There are rough notes and updates on the new features, but keep in mind that these are tentative changes that are still being tested.
The League of Legends World Championship finals can be watched this weekend, Saturday night via twitch.tv or on LoL Esports.
