Jaiwen Hsu, sits with his mother at their home in Bethesda, Md. and recounts his struggle with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

Jaiwen’s mother, Jeng Hsu, is crafting a left shoe for her son to compensate for a lasting effect his treatment left. Jaiwen’s left leg is almost and inch shorter than his right.

Jaiwen and his mother Jeng show off bracelets that were made when Jaiwen was struggling with osteosarcoma. His mother said that many of Jaiwen’s classmates and community members wore the bracelets in support.
