Forward Alyssa Thomas scored 28 points in the Terps win over Michigan State in the NCAA tournament second round March 25.

After having one of the best statistical seasons in women’s basketball history, Alyssa Thomas will enter her final season with the Terrapins women’s basketball team acknowledged yet again as one of the nation’s brightest stars.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named the senior forward to its Wade Trophy Watch List on Tuesday. The award is given annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year and is regarded as “The Heisman of Women’s Basketball.”

Last season, Thomas, a two-time All-American and ACC Player of the Year, became the first player in NCAA or WNBA history to average over 18 points (18.3), 10 rebounds (10.3), and five assists (5.3) in a season. She led the conference in the three categories as well.

Thomas was a finalist for the Wade Trophy in both her sophomore and junior seasons. Other prominent names on the 25-member preseason list are Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike, Baylor’s Odyssey Sims, and Connecticut’s Breanna Stewart. Alyssa Thomas is the only player from the Terps who made the list.
